Tall
July 3rd - 6th 2001

Unfortunately, there aren't very many ways to photograph tall buildings from ground level, as I rapidly discovered on this trip. Still, hopefully the following will convey something of the scale of New York's vertical nature.

Lots of handy footholds - why didn't King Kong choose this one instead?

I took these last two photos on July 5th, 2001. There was a massive queue for the south tower's observatory, so I went up to the restaurant at the top of the north tower instead. I remember looking across and up at the tourists who had made it to the roof of the other tower and thinking, ah well; I'll go up that one next time. I didn't even take many pictures as the visibility wasn't all that good. Again, I assumed I'd be back.

I *did* spend an inordinate amount of time with my face pressed up against the window, though, most likely leaving a steamy greasy smudge, my baseball cap turned back-to-front so the brim wouldn't get in the way, gazing down on the New York bustle below. And loving it.
